He was known as "The Beast," and for good measure - Jimmie Foxx was a muscular slugger with arms of steel who was one of the most dangerous power hitters in Major League history. Offered is a Jimmie Foxx 1953 signed government postcard. Foxx played 20 MLB seasons, from 1925-42 & 1944-45. He spent most of his long career with the Philadelphia Athletics and the Boston Red Sox, and when he retired, he was second only to Babe Ruth in lifetime home runs with 534. Foxx was a 3-time Al MVP, a 2-time AL batting champion, and a 4-time AL home run leader. The 9-time All-Star was also a 3-time World Series Champion. Foxx was mainly a first baseman, but he could play almost any position, and he played over a hundred games at both catcher and third base, and in his last season, during World Ward II with the Philadelphia Phils, he hit seven home runs and pitched 22.2 innings, with a 1-0 record and a 1.53 ERA. in 1953, Foxx managed the Fort Wayne Daisies of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, and he and Hack Wilson were the persons that actor Tom Hanks reportedly loosely used as models for his portrayal of manager Jimmy Dugan in the movie about the aforementioned women's baseball league, A League of Their Own. Foxx signed the government postcard in blue ink from a fountain pen. The postcard has a July 25, 1953, postmark, and it most likely was self-addressed (typed) to an autograph seeker from Summit, New Jersey. The postcard exhibits some fading from age but is in excellent condition. The postcard has been encapsulated and PSA/DNA certified as AUTHENTIC AUTO.
