Original Type I photograph capturing Mickey Mantle at the plate in 1956. As noted by the original UPI paper news caption (dated 6/23/56) affixed to the reverse, Mantle is pictured here hitting a home run. The home run was his 27th of the season, which put him ahead of Babe Ruth's pace in 1927, when Ruth hit his then-record 60 home runs. Mantle fell short of Ruth's record in 1956, finishing with 52 home runs. That number was still good enough to lead the league and, along with his league-leading 130 RBI and .353 batting average, earned him both the Triple Crown and MVP Award at season's end. The photo (9x7") displays a few light creases, mainly along the perimeter areas. Culled from the legendary Brown Brothers Photo Archive. PSA encapsulated as Type I Authentic.
