Original Type I photograph capturing Roy Campanella as a member of the Baltimore Elite Giants, circa 1941. Campanella is pictured in a side-by-side catching pose with teammate Bob "Eggie" Clarke. Campanella played several games with the Baltimore Elite Giants of the Negro National League in both 1938 and 1939, but it wasn't until 1940, at the age of eighteen, that he became the club's starting catcher. Original Negro League photos are rare, especially those capturing prominent players such as Campanella. This is an early Campanella photo, picturing him at the start of his professional baseball career, and one of the few such images we have seen. The photo (10x8") displays several handwritten notations on the reverse, as well as a few light creases. PSA encapsulated as Type I Authentic.
