Rare souvenir commemorating the 1969 NFL-AFL Championship game between the Baltimore Colts and New York Jets, which was also the first championship game to be officially named the Super Bowl. This official Wilson NFL football was specially produced for the game and bears the special stamping "NFL - AFL Championship" on a side panel. It should be noted that nearly all 1968 New York Jets team-signed balls in the hobby today originate from reunion shows. Vintage examples such as this are exceedingly rare. This is the first one we have ever offered and the fact it also includes members of the 1968 Baltimore Colts makes it truly unique.
The ball has been signed in vintage black ink by an incredible sixty-eight participants in Super Bowl III, including future Hall of Famers Joe Namath, Don Maynard, Johnny Unitas, Chuck Noll, Weeb Ewbank, and Don Shula. Also featured are the signatures of Earl Morrall, Fred Miller, Dan Sullivan, Willie Richardson, Verlon Biggs, Bill Mathis, Emerson Boozer, Ray Perkins, Earl Christy, Bob Talamini, George Sauer, Ray Hayes, Lou Michaels, Johnny Sample, Ron Porter, Jerry Hill, Bob Boyd, Tom Matte, Babe Parilli, John Neidert, Cornell Gordon, Mike D'Amato, Dick Szymanski, and Terry Cole. The signatures, while faint, are still legible, and grade 4/10 on average. The ball is partially deflated and displays moderate abrasions along each tip (there is no indication that this was a game-used ball). Full LOA from PSA.
