After being drafted initially by the then-Baltimore Colts, Stanford quarterback John Elway made his NFL debut on Sept. 4, 1983, as a member of the Denver Broncos. Playing against the Steelers in Pittsburgh, Elway’s introduction to the professional gridiron was not a great one. Though he started under center, he completed just one of eight pass attempts for 14 yards and threw an interception. He was eventually replaced by veteran Steve DeBerg who completed four of eight passes. In the end, the Broncos outlasted the Steelers, 14-10, via a two-yard pass from DeBerg to tight end Ron Egloff for the go-ahead touchdown. This lot features a torn ticket stub (3” tall by 1.25” wide) from Elway’s pro debut. The ticket stub has been graded Good 2 by PSA and is now nicely encapsulated.
