The city of Cincinnati spared no expense when hosting a banquet commemorating the dedication of its new Major League ballpark, Redland Field, in 1912. That fact is quite apparent when looking at this rare original panoramic photograph of the event. The enormous head table, in the shape of a diamond, features real grass, in the center of which is a large floral display. Hundreds of dignitaries attended the event, several of whom are easily identified here, including Reds team owner August Herrmann, American League President Ban Johnson, and New York Giants manager John McGraw.

The printed text along the base reads "Testimonial Dinner Tendered By The Cincinnati Commercial Association, To The Officers And Directors/The Cincinnati Exhibition Co. Operating The Cincinnati Base Ball Club/In Commemoration of the Dedication of 'Redland' Field May 18th 1912 at Hotel Sinton." The photographer's credit, "Young & Carl," appears in the lower left corner. An inset portrait photograph of George Puchta also appears in the lower left corner (Puchta was the assistant Treasure of the United States at the time and  later the Mayor of Cincinnati). Credit for the incredible decorations seen here go to "Geo. E. Fern," whose name appears in the lower right corner.

Redland Field, which was later renamed Crosley Field in 1934, opened on April 11, 1912, and was home to the Cincinnati Reds until 1970. The Reds played the New York Giants on May 18, 1912, which explains John McGraw's attendance at the banquet that night. The photo (19.5x11"; visible dimensions) is in apparent Near Mint condition and has been matted and framed to total dimensions of 26x17.75". Please note: the size and/or weight of this lot will necessitate an increased shipping charge.
