Original photo of the New York Giants posing together in front of the Arlington Hotel in Marlin, Texas, during spring training, circa 1910. Forty-three individuals are pictured here, all in street clothes, including Christy Mathewson, manager John McGraw, Rube Marquard, Red Ames, Chief Meyers, Hooks Wiltse, Art Devlin, Fred Merkle, and Red Murray. This photograph originates from the personal collection of Giants pitcher Red Ames, as noted by the handwritten notation on the back of the mount that reads "Leon K. Ames/Marlin March 22nd." The name "Tankersley" (presumably the name of the photographer) and "Marlin" are written in black ink in the lower right corner. The New York Giants trained in Marlin, Texas, each spring between the years 1908 and 1918. Although no year is listed, it must date to the narrow three-year span 1909 to 1911 because those were the only three seasons in which both Chief Meyers and Art Devlin played together with the Giants. The crystal-clear photo (8.5x6.75") is affixed to a heavy cardboard mount, both of which have been trimmed to the current dimensions. Excellent condition overall.
