In 1951, the National League used a number of events to celebrate the Senior Circuit's 75th Anniversary. One of these celebrations was a three-day affair organized by the Boston Braves. The culminating day in the festivities was Saturday, June 2nd. On that day, a parade was held that marched down Commonwealth Avenue and included 100 Harvard band members, almost 3,000 Little Leaguers and members of the famous Boston "Miracle Braves" team of 1914, a team that went from last place all the way to win the pennant and the World Series. At the ballpark, a crowd of 15,127 attended pregame festivities in which many surviving members of the 1914 Boston Braves attended, including manager George Stallings, shortstop Rabbit Maranville and catcher Hank Gowdy. The official ball game that day matched the Braves against the Chicago Cubs, which was appropriate because the Boston and Chicago National League franchises at that time were the only two continuously operating NL clubs since the National League's first game on May 30, 1976. Hall of Famer Warren Spahn started for the Braves, but he had a rare off day and the Cubs, behind starter Johnny Klippstein, prevailed 7-5. The attractive full ticket is in patriotic colors of red, white and blue, and it measures 2.5x7". The ticket has been encapsulated and graded PSA VG - EX 4.
