Presented is a trio of rare Pittsburgh Penguins hockey pucks. The Pittsburgh Penguins entered the NHL as one of six expansion teams for the 1967-68 season. The franchise derived their polar avian nickname because the team was scheduled to play in the Pittsburgh Civic Arena, known informally as the "Igloo," so the term Penguins was a perfect fit. To date, the Penguins have won five Stanley Cups in their 55 years in the NHL, tied with the Edmonton Oilers for the most Stanley Cups by any non-original NHL team. Hall of Fame center Mario Lemieux has team records for: Games (915), Career Goals (690), Career Assists (1,033), and Career Points (1,723). Lemieux also holds Penguins records for goals in a season (85 in 1988-89) and points in a season (199 in 1988-89). Lemieux also became a part-owner in the time after his initial player retirement after the 1996-97 season, and when he came back to play again in the 2000-2001 season, he became the first player/owner in NHL history as well as a player who was already a Hall of Famer. Just few of the Penguins' stars over the years: Hall of Famers Paul Coffey, and Joey Mullen - plus, probable future Hall of Famers Jaromir Jagr and Sidney Crosby. 1) The puck with a blue outline around the Penguin mascot is from the early 1970s and produced by Converse. 2) The puck with the blue lettering that shows "Pittsburgh Penguins" is from the mid-to-late 1970s and produced by Viceroy. 3) The puck with the orange logo is a practice puck from the 1970s. The pucks are all 3" in diameter, and they weigh from 5.75-6.00 ounces. All of the pucks show wear, yet they are in nice condition and exhibit little or no chipping.
