Magnificent circa 1937-40 bat wielded by Hall of Fame slugger Johnny Mize while playing for the St. Louis Cardinals. Louisville Slugger model H117 measures 36.0" and weighs a hefty 34.6 ounces, a solid piece of lumber which displays nice use with ball and seam impressions on the barrel. A replica autograph is engraved on the barrel, the thick handle ends with a slight knob, and there are no markings on the knob itself. The hard-hitting first baseman was early in his career and just coming into his own when this bat was used, averaging 31 home runs and 112 RBIs per season over that four-year span. Based on his average production, Mize could have flirted with the 500-career home run plateau had he not spent three years during his prime in the service during World War II, though his total of 359 is more than respectable. Included PSA LOA details the use displayed while also noting that the model number (H117) is not actually printed on the bat, but purchase records indicate that this was the bat he ordered during that stretch, originally created for Rogers Hornsby. Amazing and historic artifact from the 5-time World Series champion.
