Great remnants from the 1970s rivalry that brought pool to a national audience. No love was lost between master sharpshooter Willie Mosconi and showman Minnesota Fats (Rudolph Wanderone) on whom the film The Hustler was purportedly based. Mosconi, who won 19 World Straight Pool Championships in his career, was also a consultant to the 1961 film, which starred Paul Newman as Mosconi and Jackie Gleason as "Fats," as well as featuring George C. Scott and Piper Laurie. Each of the three pool balls in this lot is signed by Mosconi in 9/10 Sharpie (black or silver, depending on the ball color - with the Numbers 1 and 10 balls signed in blue and the Number 12 ball signed in silver), along with the inscription on each of "Fats can't shine my shoes." Each ball comes with a PSA Certificate. The three signed and inscribed balls provide an unusual memento of the rivalry between pool legends.
