When the future superstar rock and blues singer wrote this letter to her lover Peter de Blanc on October 4, 1965, exactly five years before her death in 1970, Joplin was back in her hometown of Port Arthur, Texas, trying to kick her amphetamine and alcohol habit. The five page letter reads in part, "I had a wonderful day! How was yours?... And since I was in such a good mood, I fixed dinner. I made some absolutely fantastic lasagna!... I really would like for you to be open with me if you can... if your psychiatrist will allow it - I think we should both save toward just a double-ring ceremony... But maybe I'm getting ahead of myself. Are we still going to get married?... Are you seriously avoiding close relationships?... I think you ought to tell me... This letter sounds stilted. I guess because I don't know how to write to you...I don't want to be to happy & light because I still have the feeling that something's wrong up there & I can't banter around w/someone who is sad... Christ I'm sorry Peter for being such a drag... I hope you know how much I love you... You know I wouldn't let us fall apart... I love you xxx J" A few months after writing this note, after their breakup, Janis moved back to San Francisco to once again ply her music career. Includes original envelope; comes with PSA LOA.
