"Cheer, cheer for Old Notre Dame, Wake up the echoes cheering her name," says the Notre Dame Fight Song - and Fighting Irish fans, as well as any serious sports collectors, will find lots of interest in this offering, a 14-item lot of Notre Dame memorabilia from 1930-1988. 1) Official Football Review/University of Notre Dame 1930. This 112-page publication celebrates Notre Dame's undefeated 1930 National Championship. It is a thorough booklet with an image of Knute Rockne on the cover, featuring photos, stories and statistics, and complete game summaries of each 1930 game. The publication has a short message from Notre Dame head coach Knute Rockne. Rockne's message and the entire publication are poignant in that the 1930 Notre Dame team was the last Fighting Irish squad that Rockne would ever coach, as he tragically died in an airplane crash on March 31, 1931. The publication shows wear, with the lower left corner showing some paper loss, and some tiny stains - with some slight darkening and wear on the pages. 2) Program for "A Toast to the National Champions of 1946." An 8.5x11.5" program featuring coach Frank Leahy's unbeaten and once-tied '46 team. 3) A four-page 1947 program insert, with lineups and rosters, for the Notre Dame vs. Iowa game at South Bend. 4) A four-page 1949 program insert, with lineups and rosters, for the Notre Dame vs. Southern California game at South Bend. 5) A 1950 four-page program insert, with lineups and rosters, for the Notre Dame vs. Michigan State game at South Bend. 6) A five-page testimonial banquet program for the 1953 Notre Dame team. 7) A November 8, 1975, game program of Georgia Tech at Notre Dame. 8) An eight-page program from the testimonial banquet honoring the 1988 Notre Dame National Champions, coached by Lou Holtz. The cover of the program is autographed by Holtz in blue pen. The program exhibits some small stains. 9) An approx. 3.5x5" personal amateur color photo of the Four Horsemen - carved in ice. Handwritten in pen by an unknown hand on the back of the photo is "The 4 Horsemen carved out of ice/ 3/17/89." 10) An approx. 3.5x5" homemade photo of the 1988 National Championship Trophy awarded to the 1988 Notre Dame squad. Written in pen by an unknown hand on the back of the photo is "N.D. testimonial football dinner/ 3/17/89." 11) A ticket to the University of Notre Dame National Championship Testimonial Banquet at Notre Dame on March 17, [St Patrick's Day] 1989. 12) A color postcard, measuring 4.25x6", with an uncancelled stamp of Knute Rockne, with a picture of the 1988 National Championship Notre Dame team. 13) A set of lithographs, each measuring approx. 11x13", created by Ted Drake. The beautiful color lithographs feature the Four Horseman, George Gipp, Knute Rockne, and Joe Boland - a player, coach and radio announcer for Notre Dame. 14) The program from the "Civic Testimonial Banquet Honoring Notre Dame's 1947 National Champions" that includes 14 autographs, including those of Notre Dame greats Leon Hart, Johnny Lujack - plus, Jim Martin, Terry Brennan, and others. The 9x12" six-page program shows definite wear - with several small tears, some paper loss, some stray pen marks, and staining and creasing. Despite the aforementioned defects, the autographs, mostly in pencil, provide signatures of some great vintage Notre Dame stars. The offering will provide plenty of Notre Dame spirit and nostalgia, and it will surely help any collector to "Send a volley clear on high, Shake down the thunder from the sky!"
