Presented is a 1965 Muhammad Ali vs. Floyd Patterson original photograph, from their World Heavyweight Championship bout in Las Vegas, signed by the photographer, Tony Triolo. Patterson had twice held the World Heavyweight crown and his victories over Eddie Machen and George Chuvalo gave Patterson the position to challenge Muhammad Ali for the World Heavyweight Championship. A win for Patterson in this fight would have given him a record three reigns as World Champion. Ali was a favorite, and Patterson hurt his sacroiliac before the fight and was fighting hurt. Ali clearly had the upper hand in the fight, and allegedly because Patterson continued to call Ali by Ali's previous name of Cassius Clay, Ali taunted Patterson and tried to punish Patterson rather than try to knock him out. A reporter for the New York Times wrote that watching the fight was like watching someone "pulling the wings off a butterfly." Eventually, Ali won the bout on a TKO near the end of the 12th round. The black and white photo measures approx. 11x14". Photographer has captured the moment just after Ali was declared the victor. Patterson seems stunned and Ali - arms extended towards the rafters - appears exultant. Patterson had another chance at Ali in 1972, but again Ali won on a TKO, this time in the 7th round. The dramatic photograph tells a story in itself, and Triolo has captured the moment brilliantly. Tony Triolo neatly signed his photograph in black ink from a marker and added "1965" as an inscription. The photograph is in excellent condition and makes a fine remembrance of a memorable moment.
