1989 Ken Griffey, Jr., game used spikes from his rookie season with the Seattle Mariners. Nike Air cleats have been painted blue with white swoosh; some of the blue paint has spilled into the white areas of the shoes. Manufacturer's tag is sewn in the tongue of each, and heavy use is evident. In addition to the game use, some of the cushioning for the heel and sole has begun to degrade and crumble from age, not unusual for spikes of this vintage. Each toe is signed and numbered in 8/10 silver paint pen. Lot comes with separate LOA for each signature. Junior recorded 16 homers in an impressive first season at just 19 years of age, but finished 3rd in American League Rookie of the Year balloting to pitchers Gregg Olson and Tom Gordon.
