Original Type I photograph, taken by renowned baseball photographer Charles Conlon, capturing Chicago White Sox pitcher Monty Stratton warming up on the sideline prior to a game, circa 1930s. Stratton pitched for the White Sox from 1934-1938 before a hunting accident resulted in the amputation of his right leg. Fitted with a prosthetic leg, he made a comeback and later pitched a number of years in the minor leagues. His story was so inspiring that eventually a film was made of his life, with Jimmy Stewart in the title role. Conlon's handwritten notations appears on the reverse, including his own name, as well as Stratton's name and team affiliation. Handwritten editorial notations also appear on the reverse. This photo was originally sold at Christies in 1996 as part of the sale of the Baseball Magazine Archives and includes the auction sticker on the reverse. The photo (6.5x8.5") remains in Excellent condition. PSA encapsulated as Type I Authentic.
