Displayed is a Gary Carter game worn 1981 Montreal Expos uniform which the Hall of Fame catcher wore during the strike-shortened season. Carter played in parts of 19 seasons in the Major Leagues. His first Major League team was the Montreal Expos, for whom he first played as a 20-year-old in 1974. He played his first 11 seasons with Montreal, spent five years with the New York Mets, and played a year each for the San Francisco Giants, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Expos again in his final year. Over his career, Carter combined outstanding defense and power hitting. He was a 3-time MVP, a 9-time All-Star, a 3-time Gold Glove recipient, and a 5-time Silver Slugger winner. Cater hit 324 home runs and batted .262 lifetime. In 1986, he was one of the Mets' leaders as the team won the World Series over the Boston Red Sox. Carter was called "the Kid" because of his boyish enthusiasm for baseball. In the 1981 season, the campaign was divided into two halves because of the strike. Carter's Expos won the National League East Division second half and defeated the Philadelphia Phillies in the NL Division Series. The Expos lost the NL Championship Series to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Carter hit .268, with 16 home runs and 68 RBIs in the '81 season. Carter passed away in 2012, and the former Fallon Street West, near the old Jarry Park in Montreal, is now named Gary Carter Street in honor of "the Kid." Carter's offered uniform is comprised of his pants and jersey. The blue jersey has a red, white, and blue sewn on Expos logo on the left chest and under the logo is a sewn on "expos" in red letters. There is a sewn on red numeral "8" on the right chest. Six silver-colored buttons run down the front of the jersey. On the back is "CARTER" in red sewn on lettering and under the name is "8," in a red sewn on numeral. The jersey has a Wilson manufacturer's size "46" tag in the neck and a "Set 1 1981" tag inside the front tail. The blue pants are tagged "35/38 25 8 81 1," with a "Set 1 1981" tag as well. There is moderate use on the pants. The jersey shows nice wear, with most of the wear on the numbers and the Expos' logo. Carter's plaque in the Hall of Fame depicts him as an Expo, and this brightly colored Gary Carter game worn uniform makes an outstanding remembrance for one of baseball's greatest all-time catchers.
