Rare and attractive silk press pass issued for the November 25, 1893, football game between Harvard and Yale held in Springfield, Massachusetts. This is the first nineteenth-century silk football pass we have ever offered, and we have seen just a few others. The large pass (3.5x6") features a detailed engraving of a football game in progress in the center, with the names of the schools and the date displayed, respectively, above and below. The final line of text at the base reads "Admit to Press enclosure." Both clubs entered the 1893 game undefeated, but Yale proved to be the better club that day, defeating Harvard 6-0. The silk displays moderate wear, including a tiny tear near the upper right border and minor fraying along the base.
