Presented is a rookie era (1910s) Brown Brothers PSA Type I photograph of Hall of Fame left-hander Herb Pennock of the Philadelphia Athletics. Pennock played 22 Major League seasons. He broke in with Connie Mack's Philadelphia Athletics in the 1912 season and was sent in the 1915 season to the Boston Red Sox, a move Connie Mack regarded as one of his biggest mistakes. Pennock saw very limited action in his first two seasons with the Athletics, as he was only 18 and 19 years old, and he only started a combined five games in those seasons, going a combined 3-3. As a twenty-year-old in 1914, Pennock saw more regular use as a starter and went 11-4, with a 2.74 ERA. Pennock played in parts of eight seasons for the Boston Red Sox, and he was one of a number of fine pitchers that the New York Yankees acquired from Boston during the 1910s-1920s that helped to make the Yankee dynasty. Pennock pitched 11 seasons for the Yankees, and he was a 5-time World Series champion. His lifetime record was 241-162. After his playing career, Pennock became a baseball executive and as a general manager he helped to construct the Philadelphia Phillies' "Whiz Kids," who won the 1950 National League pennant. The Type I photo measures approx. 3.1x5.25". The front has "PENNOCK" hand-printed by an unknown hand at the base of the photo. The back has "PENNOCK" written in pencil by an unknown hand. Also, on the back is stamped "CREDIT BROWN BROTHERS, 230 [?] West 42nd St. N. Y. 36/ LOANED FOR ONE USE ONLY." The photo has some small paper loss in the top right corner, but overall, the photo is in very good condition. The original photograph has been encapsulated and PSA certified as "TYPE I AUTHENTIC."
