Over a quarter-century after Cal Ripken, Jr., rode into immortality by playing in his 2,131st consecutive game, the magnitude of his "Iron Man" streak only grows. This Official American League (Budig) ball was used for the historic contest on September 6, 1995, when Ripken surpassed Lou Gehrig's consecutive games streak and has great provenance, coming from teammate Mark Smith. Cal has signed on the sweet spot in 7/10 black ink; immediately to the right is a signature of Joe DiMaggio, also in black ink (8/10), signed at a later date. Harold Baines has added his signature just to the right of bold main stamp in 8/10 black ink. Ball has been nicely rubbed up and shows game use with a slight area of surface loss near the Budig signature stamp. Hand-written on the panel above the sweet spot is "Game Ball #2131 9/6/95 M. Smith" possibly in Smith's hand but not confirmed. Smith was friends with Ripken and the ball was signed at the milestone game. Tremendous and unusual overall presentation. Comes with PSA LOA.
