Original glass plate negative capturing New York Giants manager John McGraw and star pitcher Christy Mathewson prior to a 1911 World Series game against the Philadelphia Athletics at the Polo Grounds. In a reversal, McGraw is the one seen warming up on the sideline while Mathewson looks on. Although the negative is undated, both McGraw and Mathewson are wearing all-black uniforms made specially for the 1911 World Series. Mathewson was on the losing end of two of his three starts in the Series, which Philadelphia won four games to two. The negative (7x5”) displays minor flaws along the periphery, as well as a few light stains, and a small scratch that affects Mathewson's face. Good condition. Culled from the legendary Brown Brothers Photo Archives.
