Boston Red Sox road pants issued to Tom Seaver in 1986, together with a Tom Seaver 1987 Boston Red Sox team-issued road jersey. The gray knit pants feature a "Wilson 38" label in the waistband. To the left of the label is a gray strip tagging bearing the player's uniform number and inseam measurement ("41 25 1/2") stitched in black. The year, "86" is stitched in black upon a second gray strip tag to the right of the manufacturer's label. These pants were most likely sent down for use by a minor-league affiliate because several additional numbers are written in black marker on the interior, along with the name "McGowan." The pants show light use.

The gray knit road jersey is lettered "Boston" across the front and features the number "41" on the reverse. All letters and numerals are applied in navy tackle twill. Located on the left front tail are a "Rawlings 46" label, a tag lettered "2 Inch Extra Length," and a flag tag reading "Set 1 1987." A Fenway Park "75th Anniversary" patch adorns the left sleeve. The jersey is original as issued and displays little to no use. Seaver was traded to the Red Sox during the 1986 season. Following the season, he became a free agent and the Red Sox obviously had this jersey made up for him in anticipation of a possible return, but it was not to be. Seaver chose not to sign with any team at the start of the 1987 season and he officially announced his retirement on June 22, 1987. Seaver was the only Red Sox player to wear #41 in 1986, and no Red Sox player wore that number in 1987.
