Pair of hand-painted wooden wall panels dating from the early 1900s. These two panels, which were meant to be displayed side-by-side on a wall, employ baseball jargon to tell the comical story of one gentleman's unfortunate summer afternoon. The first panel is the epitome of serenity, as it pictures an idyllic scene of a man reading the sports page while lying in a hammock near the shore of a tree-lined pond. The painted caption at the base reads "Base Ball Notes!" The second panel pictures the same background, but the gentleman has now fallen to the ground after one of the hammock ties snapped off the tree. The painted caption at the base now reads "Out On A Fly!!!" Each panel (12x18") displays a few small abrasions and/or scratches that do not detract in the least from their overall Excellent appearance. The panels remain housed in their identically shaped original wooden frames (14x23"), with each frame featuring hand-painted embellishments. This is an attractive pair of early wall panels that will appeal equally to both baseball and folk-art collectors. Please note: the size and/or weight of this lot will necessitate an increased shipping charge.
