Michael Jordan is the consensus pro basketball GOAT, and considering his marvelous hoops achievements, the displayed offering seems incongruous - a Michael Jordan game-used baseball bat, batting gloves and wrist bands. Any sports collector who is looking for both a valuable and an outside-the-box opportunity should jump at the chance to possess the aforementioned Jordan items. Who can argue that Jordan's basketball mastery placed him above all others? To wit: 10-time scoring champion; 14-time All-Star; 5-time NBA MVP; 6-time Finals MVP. Of course, Jordan had immense talent, but his fantastic drive to win was perhaps his most valuable quality. With Jordan driving his teammates, the Bulls won a three-peat of NBA Championships from 1990-93. In the '93-94 season, the Bulls failed to win four championships in a row. Jordan's father was murdered, and Michael Jordan decided to play professional baseball. Jordan signed with the Chicago White Sox organization, run by the Chicago Bulls owner, Jerry Reinsdorf. Almost 31 years old when he signed to play baseball, Jordan hadn't played formal baseball since high school. In his season with the Double-A level Birmingham Barons, of the Southern League, Jordan played right field. He played in 127 games, batting .202, with three home runs, 46 runs, 51 RBIs, and 30 stolen bases. He did a little better in that year's Arizona Fall League's campaign, but then went back to the Chicago Bulls, and as the award-winning television documentary, The Last Dance made evident, Jordan, from 1995-97, pushed his Chicago Bulls teammates to a repeat of the team's three-peat run of championships. The ash bat with a black finish is a Wilson model WC209. The bat has a length of 35.0 inches and a weight of 32.6 ounces. The bat shows evidence of moderate use, and it has a crack in the handle. A few ball marks and ball stitch impressions are visible on the left, right, and back barrel. Ball marks include blue ink transfers and white leather scuffs. The handle has been taped with four rings to enhance the grip. Jordan's initials (MJ), the model number (WC209), and the length (5) are stamped into the knob. Jordan's number (45) has been written on the knob, by clubhouse manager Cory Sifford in silver marker. Sifford also states in his letter that the number 45 was used by Jordan to honor his late father. The bat is accompanied by a letter from Sifford, who states that he was responsible for placing Jordan's number "45" on the knob as well as being responsible for the tape application on the handle. The bat comes with a PSA Letter of Grading and Authenticity, and the bat grades as "PSA GU 8.5." Also enclosed are Jordan's game used batting gloves (size XL). Sifford states, "The batting gloves are Wilson 'Power Lock' and are custom designed for use by Jordan. Due to the tenderness of his hands, special padding was placed on the right glove to prevent blistering. The gloves enclosed show great use and exhibit pine tar." As regards the wristbands, Sifford writes, "The wrist bands are oversized black bands with the name 'Wilson' appearing in white script. The cover photo of the 1994 Baron's (sic) Media Guide clearly show (sic) him wearing gloves and bands and holding a black Wilson bat similar to the items included. I guarantee these items to be game worn by Michael Jordan during the 1994 season while playing for the Birmingham Barons." The bat, batting gloves and wrist bands make a wonderful item that will enhance any sports collection with its cross-sports appeal with Michael Jordan, basketball's Greatest Player of All-time.
