Offered is a Bruce Bochy game worn San Francisco Giants jersey that was worn on September 9, 2019. Bochy was a catcher who played for nine seasons in the Major Leagues (1978-87). Bochy spent his first five playing seasons with the Houston Astros, then he played a year with the New York Mets and four years with the San Diego Padres. Bochy was mostly a backup catcher in his Major League career. Known for his large, size 8 head, when Bochy first reported to his New York Mets team in 1982, Bochy was immediately asked if he had brought his special sized batting helmet with him because the Mets didn't have a helmet his size. Bochy wasn't a star as a player, but he learned the game and became a manager, serving 25 years as a Major League skipper. From 1995-2006, Bochy managed the San Diego Padres, leading the team to the NL pennant in 1998. He then managed the San Francisco Giants from 2007 through 2019, and he won three World's Championships with the Giants, in 2010, '12, and '14. In the Sept. 9, 2019, game in which Bochy wore the displayed jersey as a manager, the Giants, with starter Madison Bumgarner pitching seven innings and allowing only two runs, held a 4-2 lead going into the 9th inning at home at Oracle Park against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Giants' bullpen gave up for runs in the final frame and the Pirates held on to win 6-4. The Giants' home polyester jersey has "GIANTS," in block black letters with orange trim, across the chest. On the right inside tail is a Majestic manufacturer's tag showing the year as "2019" and the size as "52." The left outer tail has a Majestic MLB Authentic tag that has a hologram and shows the jersey size as "52." On this all-original jersey, the right sleeve has three special patches: 1) A black patch with orange lettering and orange trim. The patch reads "PETER" and it is a tribute to Peter McGowan, the Giants' owner who died in January of 2019. 2) Also on the right sleeve is a black patch with orange lettering and numerals and orange trim. The patch reads, "STRETCH 44" and it is tribute to Hall of Famer first baseman Willie McCovey, a great Giants power hitter who died in late October in 2018. 3) The right sleeve also has an MLB 150 Anniversary tag. The left sleeve has a patch with the San Francisco Giants logo as well as a tag with the Majestic logo. On the back is an MLB patch and a sewn on "15" in black with orange trim. Six white buttons run down the midline. Unless Bochy comes back to manage again, the jersey was worn during his final managerial campaign, and the three special patches make the jersey memorable.
