1970 Topps #189 Thurman Munson rookie card, signed by Munson on the front. PSA has encapsulated the card and certified the signature as "Authentic." This is one of just four Thurman Munson signed rookie cards listed in the PSA Population Report, making it one of the scarcest of all signed modern-era rookie cards. It is also the first such example we have ever offered and just the second we have seen at public auction. The rarity of a signed Munson rookie card is not surprising, given his tragic death in 1979 and the fact that he was never a very accommodating signer during his career. Munson's signature has been scripted in blue ink across his image, with the signature grading 6/10 overall (a portion of his last name contrasts poorly against the dark background). The card displays a few moderate creases and a horizontal line of tape residue along the top and bottom borders. Opportunities to obtain a Munson signed rookie card are few and far between, and it may be years before another example appears at public auction.
