Spalding official American Football League (AFL) football signed by members of the circa 1964 Denver Broncos. This ball originates from the personal collection of Cleveland Browns Hall of Fame wide receiver Mac Speedie and has been consigned to this auction directly by a family member. It is one of twenty lots from the Mac Speedie Collection offered in this auction, all of which were just recently on public display at the National Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. The ball has been signed on all four panels, but most of the signatures are badly faded. Among those that remain legible are Goose Gonsoulin, John McGeever, Bob McCullough, Ed Cooke, Willie Brown, and Ray Jacobs. Mac Speedie joined the Broncos as a coach in 1962 and later took over as the team's head coach after Jack Faulkner was fired after four games in 1964. Speedie remained head coach through the 1965 season before resigning after an 0-2 start in 1966. He continued to work in the Broncos organization as a scout for many years before retiring from football in 1982. The ball is slightly deflated and displays moderate wear (possibly indicating game or practice use), including a few white marks.
