Collection of the four large-format M101-2 team supplements issued by The Sporting News in 1909 and 1910. This collection originates from a remarkable complete set of M101-2 Sporting News Supplements that was obtained by a longtime collector decades ago. The set, as a whole, is perhaps the finest ever assembled, the majority of which is being broken up and offered in several lots in this auction. (The PSA highest-graded Joe Jackson M101-2, which appeared in our Summer Classic Auction and realized a record price of $20,419, originates from this same set.)
These large-format supplements were twice as long as the normal supplements issued by the newspaper and therefore had to be folded when issued. As such, each displays a vertical fold. Originally issued at an approximate size of 16x10", all appear to have been slightly trimmed to their current dimensions. The collection consists of the following: 1) 1909 Detroit Tigers (16x9.75"). Poor condition, with creasing, edge tears, two additional vertical folds, and tape reinforcement of the center fold. 2) 1909 Pittsburgh Pirates (15.75x10.25"). Fair condition, with creases, tiny edge tears, and tape reinforcement to the center fold. 3) 1910 Chicago Cubs (15.75x9.75"). Good condition, with light creasing and tiny edge tears. 4) 1910 Philadelphia Athletics (15.75x10"). Good to Very Good condition.
