Offered is an original Nirvana poster advertising the appearance of the band, inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, at the New Music Seminar in New York City, at Roseland, on July 23, 1993. Roseland was originally founded in 1917 in Philadelphia, and the music venue transferred to New York City in 1919 to avoid the strict Philadelphia Blue Laws. In 1952, the original New York City Roseland moved from its 51st Street location to 52nd Street. Over decades, Roseland featured dancing and big bands, such as the orchestras of Glenn Miller and Tommy Dorsey. More recently, Roseland was a multi-purpose venue that could accommodate 3,500 persons including 300 in the balcony. In 1993, Nirvana performed songs from In Utero, its soon to be released third studio album, a release that would top the album charts in both the U.S. and the United Kingdom. "All Apologies" "Heart-Shaped Box" were two singles from the album that would reach Number 1 on Billboard's Alternative Music chart: "Heart-Shaped Box" and "All Apologies." A music critic on the New York Times, Jon Pareles, wrote: "The band ... reminds both old fans and skeptics of why it blasted out of the club circuit to begin with. ...The music weaves and undulates, conveying not the muscular certainty of most hard rock, but a struggle to break free of despair." At the Roseland appearance, Nirvana was joined onstage by two other musicians at times during the concert. The poster includes band members: Kurt Cobain (guitar and lead vocals), Krist Novoselic (bass guitar), and Dave Grohl (drummer). Nirvana disbanded after the suicide of Kurt Cobain in 1994. Lady Gaga gave the final Roseland musical performance, and the venue closed after her concert on April 7, 2014. The poster represents the basic, no frills poster style in New York City at the time. It measures 14" x 22". The poster does have some tiny white spots where the ink did not take in its printing run. Overall, the poster is in excellent condition. It recalls Nirvana, at its peak.
