Los Angeles Lakers warmup jacket worn by Hall of Fame center Wilt Chamberlain during his five-year tenure with the club (1968-1973). Accompanied by a Letter of Authenticity from MEARS certifying the garment as "Authentic" (as per its policy, MEARS does not grade warmup jackets). While all Wilt Chamberlain game-used items are scarce, warmup jackets are especially rare. This is the first such example we have offered and just the second we have ever seen. The purple button-down satin jacket features the Lakers team patch on the left breast. The name "Chamberlain" is applied on the reverse in gold on white tackle-twill letters. A "Tiernan" manufacturer's tag appears in the collar. As noted in the MEARS LOA, the garment was issued without a year and size tag, but the style of Tiernan label here dates to each of Chamberlain's five seasons with the Lakers, from 1968 to 1973. The jacket is original as issued and displays heavy wear, indicating possible use in more than one season.
Chamberlain spent the last five seasons of his career playing with the Los Angeles Lakers. During that time "Wilt the Stilt" helped lead the Lakers to four NBA Finals and one World Championship. Few players in basketball history had more of an impact on the game than Chamberlain. In addition to his legendary 100-point game in 1962, Chamberlain still holds a host of records, including averaging over 50 points in a season, averaging over 30 points and 20 rebounds per game in seven different seasons, and finishing with a career average of over 30 points and 20 rebounds per game. Individual honors include four MVP Awards, thirteen All-Star Game appearances, seven All NBA First Team selections, seven scoring titles, and eleven rebounding titles. He was simply the most dominant player of his era and he remains one of the most iconic figures in the history of American sports. This is an exceptional Wilt Chamberlain game-used item and one that would be the centerpiece of any advanced Wilt Chamberlain, Los Angeles Lakers, or NBA Game-Used collection. Full LOA from MEARS.
