In the late 1920’s an attempt was made to create a helmet with a facemask to protect the player’s head, whose massive injuries to the face continued to threaten banishment of the game. Thus the executioner-style was born. This unusual helmet was unpopular from the start as it was uncomfortable and limited the vision of the wearer. Eventually it was limited to being worn by injured players whose coaches needed to keep key players in the game. Therefore, production of this rare helmet was very, very limited. Green and white team colored helmet tells the vicious tale of the early days of the game through ferocious use. Still fully intact the inner padding has absorbed an ocean of sweat. A marvelous grid-iron relic.
