1958 dinner program signed by eighteen individuals from the world of New York sports, including Roy Campanella. The significance of this program is its date of issue: January 26, 1958. The very next night (technically the morning of January 28th) Roy Campanella was involved in a car accident that left him paralyzed from the shoulders down. Therefore, this program is one of the last items he ever signed. The fold-over program (designed in the style of a baseball scorecard), issued for the "Thirty-Fifth Annual Eating and Oratorical Contest staged by The New York Chapter Baseball Writers' Association of America, has been signed in either blue ink or pencil on both the front and back covers. The pencil signatures are those of Roy Campanella, Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, Whitey Ford, Will Harridge, Warren Giles, Ford Frick, Bobby Thomson, Jim Lee Howell (New York Giants football coach), Fred Haney, and Bill Rigney. The blue-ink signatures are those of Willie Mays, Phil Rizzuto, Richard Nixon (then Vice President of the United States), Casey Stengel, Horace Stoneham (owner of the New York Giants), Red Barber (New York Yankees announcer announcer), and Buzzie Bavasi (Dodgers general manager). The signatures average 8/10 except for Frick (5/10). The program (6.5x9.75") remains in Excellent condition. Full LOA from JSA.
