Amazing and rare Type III image of a very youthful Roy Campanella during his days with the Baltimore Elite Giants of the Negro Leagues. This 3.25x6.5" head shot was printed in the 1940s but transmitted by wire, thus, the Type III classification by PSA. The verso includes editors' marks and a newspaper clip of this very image. Before becoming a 3-time National League MVP with the Brooklyn Dodgers, Campy spent eight seasons excelling for Baltimore, with a .323 overall batting average including high seasons of .388 (1944) and .385 (1945). Superb early look at this historic figure.
