Though their history was relatively brief, the New England/Hartford Whalers are still remembered fondly by hockey fans of all stripes. Lot contains the document that started it all, the actual World Hockey Association Franchise certificate dated April 17, 1972, which brought the team into existence. Cert is unframed, measures 14x11" with foxing particularly to the left edge, possible slight water damage to the bottom left. Also included is an 11.5x7" black and white team photo, Good condition with prominent crease to bottom left corner. These items come directly from the collection of the president of the franchise. New England had a "banner" season in that inaugural campaign, capturing the first-ever Avco Cup, awarded to the champions of the fledgling WHA.
