Original Type I photo of Roger Maris crossing the plate after hitting his historic record-breaking 61st home run at Yankee Stadium on October 1, 1961. Despite the significance of the feat, the reactions following Maris’ 61st home run were somewhat subdued. Only 23,154 fans chose to attend that day, which was less than half capacity. As one can see here, Maris, showing little emotion, is greeted at the plate only by on-deck batter Yogi Berra and the batboy. There was no rousing celebration by his teammates on the field, and the game was not stopped to commemorate the event, as it would be today. A Brown Brothers credit stamp appears on the reverse, along with a handwritten caption in pencil describing the scene. The photo (10x8”) remains in Excellent condition. Culled from the Legendary Brown Brothers Photo Archive. PSA encapsulated as Type I Authentic.
