The decade of the 1950s was an exciting time to be a Cleveland Indians' fan. The Tribe won the World Series in 1948, and that excitement carried over into the 1950s as Cleveland finished first in its American League division in each year except 1957. In the '50s, the Indians finished in second place six times, five of those times trailing the New York Yankees. The Indians won the AL pennant in 1954, with an amazing 111-43 regular season record, for a percentage of .721. Offered is a throwback Cleveland Indians wooden figure from that era. The figure is rare, and it stands approximately 4.5" tall. It rests on a 1.5" diameter metal base. The original feather on top brings the overall height to about five inches. The figure is holding a 3" wooden bat and a small baseball. Overall, the statue is in very good condition, with the only real flaw being a missing right foot which could be replaced, as it is painted wood. The decal on front is intact. Judged by today's sensibilities, the figure could be regarded as stereotypical, with its broad mascot like characteristics. But the figure stands as an accurate representation of its time. With the Cleveland franchise now (as of 2022) known as the Guardians, memorabilia of the Cleveland Indians take on an enhanced value.
