Some mystery has surrounded this stunning vintage 1884 equipment chest; though some questions have been answered, others remain. While we had originally recognized this as a hockey equipment trunk, it was brought to our attention that it was, in fact, used for polo, as evidenced by the crossed polo mallets and ball painted on top. Solid wood construction, hand made with original paint. This gorgeous
black box with elaborate red and gold lettering measures 48x21x8". Wood slats are inside creating compartments for individual players, with painted names including "M. Burns, C. Ross, W. Burns, S. Gard, W. King, E.
Gard." Displays great patina and it is simply amazing that it survived in this condition after nearly 130 years. While we are still unable to pin down the exact place this was used, it would make a magnificent display setting for vintage sports equipment, or it can be a centerpiece on its own.
