Collection of twenty-four different 1909-1913 M101-2 Sporting News Supplements, each featuring one or more Hall of Fame players. This collection originates from a remarkable complete set of M101-2 Sporting News Supplements that was obtained by a longtime collector decades ago. The set, as a whole, is perhaps the finest ever assembled, the majority of which is being broken up and offered in several lots in this auction. (The PSA highest-graded Joe Jackson M101-2, which appeared in our Summer Classic Auction and realized a record price of $20,419, originates from this same set.)
The twenty-four supplements featured here are as follows: 1) Bresnahan PR; 2) Chance PR; 3) Walsh PR; 4) Jennings PR; 5) Clarke PR; 6) B. Johnson GD; 7) Comiskey FR; 8) Collins PR-light water stain; 9) Brown PR; 10) Evers FR; 11) Crawford PR; 12) Evans, O'Louglin, Klem, and Johnstone PR-light water stain; 13) Mack FR; 14) Plank FR; 15) W. Johnson and Street PR; 16) Baker PR; 17) Tinker GD; 18) Bender GD+; 19) Wallace PR; 20) McGraw GD; 21) Marquard FR; 22) Wheat PR; 23) Griffith GD; and 24) Schalk FR.
The 1909-1913 Sporting News supplements were printed on extremely thin paper stock and nearly all surviving examples display condition flaws, including creases, tears, and corner chips. While the offered supplements are no exception in that regard, all are in far finer condition than normally found and present at a much higher level than one would expect in relation to their technically accurate grade. (It should be noted that of the 145 M101-2 Sporting News Supplements graded by PSA to date, none have graded higher than VG 3 and only six have graded higher than GD 2). This is an outstanding collection of these attractive supplements, all of which offer exceptional eye appeal.
