1948 Leaf Baseball #79 Jackie Robinson Rookie Card. Graded VG 3 by SGC. Jackie Robinson's 1948-1949 Leaf rookie card is one of the most recognizable cards in the hobby, not to mention one of the few cards that also conveys historical significance. Robinson's 1947 debut with the Dodgers was a watershed moment not only for organized baseball but for race relations in America, as it helped create opportunities for countless African-American men and women in other professions that had long been denied to them by racial bias. In addition to being the key card to the set, Robinson's Leaf rookie is also difficult to find in high grade, with poor print quality and dull, muted colors its most common flaws. The offered card, which is well centered, has nice color, with fairly smooth edges and a reverse that is clean and defect free. This is an outstanding mid-grade example of one of the most significant rookie cards of the postwar era.
