Vintage photograph capturing first baseman Fred Merkle as a member of the New York Giants. Merkle is pictured posing at first base as if he is awaiting a throw. Oddly, he is wearing a fielder's glove, not a first baseman's mitt for the photo. Although no year is listed, this photo dates to approximately the time of his famous "boner" in 1908, which ultimately cost the Giants the pennant that year. Four Brown Brothers credit stamps and a Brown Brothers label appear on the reverse, along with Merkle's name written in pencil. The photo (8.5x7") displays a vertical crease near the right border and is in Very Good condition overall. Culled from the legendary Brown Brothers Photo Archive. PSA encapsulated as Type III Authentic.
