When Antonio Brown, Tampa Bay Bucs' wide receiver, engaged in his now infamous meltdown early in the third quarter of the January 2, 2022, game against the home New York Jets, no one can accuse him of taking only halfway measures. While still remaining within the bounds of decency, Brown went all out. Presented is the left glove that Brown tossed into the stands at Met Life Stadium. At that point in the game, Brown had already picked up 26 yards on three receptions. Tampa Bay was losing by a score of 24-10, and Brown had earlier been briefly benched. When head coach Bruce Arians wanted Brown to re-enter the game, Brown started to remove his uniform. He took off his jersey, shoulder pads and his T-shirt. He left the Tampa Bay bench and headed down the sideline towards the end zone, and as he was at about the ten-yard line, he threw his receiving gloves and his T-shirt into the stands. Tampa Bay came back to win the game 28-24. After the incident, Brown alleged that his ankle was too injured for him to re-enter the game. In contrast, Tampa Bay alleged that Brown was capable of playing and in need of mental counseling. When he walked off the field, Brown was close to qualifying for three bonuses, each worth $333,333. He needed eight more catches for his receiving bonus; 55 more receiving yards for his receiving yardage bonus; and one receiving touchdown for his receiving touchdown bonus. He would have had most of the second half of this game, and the whole season-finale game in Week 18 to reach his bonuses. Brown had played from 2011-2018 with the Pittsburgh Steelers and during that time period, he had more receptions that any other NFL player. He had been plagued by several off-field incidents in his career, and at the urging of Tom Brady, he had been signed to a Tampa Bay contract. The glove is white, with a black Nike Swoosh on the back. Inside, at the wrist, the glove also has an NFL logo and an "ABJ Auto All" tag. The outside of the glove has a Raiders' logo, from when Brown played for the Raiders, and, as on the right glove, has been blackened out. On the outside back of the wrist band is imprinted "Superbad". The right glove from this incident recently sold at a Lelands' auction for nearly $17,000. Now the other glove is at auction, and it is an opportunity to possess a tangible sports memento from an iconic NFL moment that has entered pop culture.
