Presented is a marvelous 125-year-old baseball board game with outrageous charm. Start with the incredible graphics on the cover of the box. The manufacturer, the McLoughlin Company, depicts the colorfully attired batter at the ready, his bat with a much thinner barrel than today's, He wears pants that are like nickers, with socks pulled up high. The catcher wears a tiny chest protector and no shin guards, because New York Giants catcher Roger Bresnahan hasn't invented them yet. The lettering on the box reads, "HOME BASE BALL GAME." Note how baseball is spelled in the late Nineteenth Century - as two words. The game has a colorful playing field, with circles representing the positions. Observe how the three basemen are exactly at each base, with the shortstop the only infielder playing between bases. There are several metal players still remaining with the game. The game also has a spinner to determine results. The game and box measure approx. 12x22". The sides of the box do have a few missing pieces. The top of the box has some staining, but it still looks great.
