The offered signed Hank Greenberg letter is beautifully presented on Cleveland Indians stationery. Hank Greenberg was one of the greatest power hitters of his time. He led the America League in homers four times and had 331 career round-trippers, even though he lost four years of his playing career because of service in the military during World War II. In 1938, he hit 58 home runs to tie Jimmy Foxx at the time as the players who hit the most home runs in a season other than Babe Ruth. After a 13-year career, mostly as a first baseman for the Detroit Tigers, Greenberg became a baseball executive, and served as the general manager of the Cleveland Indians. During his reign there, the Indians brought numerous African Americans into the major leagues before some other teams had any African Americans on the major league roster. In a thank you letter to Hall of Fame President Stephen C. Clark, Greenberg writes, in part," On Monday, July 23rd, 1956, I had the great honor of being inducted into Baseball's Hall of Fame at Cooperstown. This was the most thrilling and memorable day of my life." The letter is signed, "'Hank' Greenberg."
