The 2003 Florida Marlins were only the second team in baseball history to win the World Series after being 10 or more games under .500 at some point in the season. The 1914 "Miracle Braves" of Boston were the only other club to make such a comeback. The Marlins were 16-22 in 2003 when they changed managers, replacing Jeff Torborg with Jack McKeon. Under McKeon, the Marlins went 75-49, and as a Wildcard, reached the World Series, defeating the favored New York Yankees in six games. Hall of Famer Ivan Rodriguez provided defense behind the plate and hit .297. The home run power was from Mike Lowell (32) and Derrek Lee (31), and Luis Castillo batted .314. Pitchers Dontrelle Willis and Mark Redman each won 14 games and pitcher Josh Beckett was the World Series MVP. There are 31 signatures on the Official Major League ball, Signatures are from: McKeon (SS), HOF Rodriguez, Beckett, Lowell, Lee, Willis, Redman, Castillo, Pavano, Encarnacion, Pierre, Fox, Guillen (coach), Bill Robinson (coach), and many more.
