Pittsburgh Pirates home jersey worn by outfielder Bill Virdon in 1965. The white flannel vest-style jersey is lettered "Pirates" across the front and features the number "18" on the left breast and reverse. All letters and numerals are applied in black on gold felt. A "Rawlings size 42" label appears on the left front tail. Located on the interior left front tail are a laundry tag and an adjacent flag tag that reads "Set 1 1965." The jersey is all original and displays heavy wear throughout, including team repairs on the reverse to several small tears, puckering to the fabric, and a few small, light stains. 1965 marked Virdon's last full season in the Majors and he finished the year with a .279 batting average, 4 home runs and 24 RBI. A former Rookie of the Year in 1955, Virdon enjoyed a fine twelve-year Major League career, with all but one of those years spent with the Pirates. Virdon was a starter for the Pirates from 1956 to 1965, and was a key member of the club's 1960 World Championship club. He later enjoyed a successful managerial career that lasted from 1972 to 1984.
