Sammy Sosa Cooper pro-model ("S318") bat dating from the 1986-1991 manufacturing period. Graded GU 8 by PSA. Although this bat dates from the general 1986-1991 labeling period, its time of use can be more narrowly dated to the three-year span 1989-1991 because Sosa's uniform number ("25") is written on the knob in black marker. (Sosa wore number "25" only with the White Sox between the years 1989 and 1991.) The bat, which measures 34 inches in length and weighs 31.4 ounces, displays outstanding use, including ball marks and checking (grain separation) on the barrel, and white tape, applied in a crisscross manner, on the handle. There is also a crack in the handle that has been secured with glue. This is an extremely early Sosa game-used bat. Sosa made his Major League debut with the Texas Rangers on June 16, 1989, and appeared in 28 games with the club before being traded to the Chicago White Sox on July 29th of that year. He finished the year with the White Sox and remained with the club for two more seasons. Sosa totaled 29 home runs during his first three seasons with Texas and Chicago, numbers that did not foretell the slugging records he would set over the course of the next fifteen years playing for the crosstown rival Chicago Cubs. One of only nine players to hit 600 or more home runs, Sosa finished his career with 609 home runs, 1,667 RBI, and a .273 lifetime average. LOA from PSA.
