Thurman Munson wasn't the man who stirred the drink for the 1970s New York Yankees - that was Reggie Jackson. Instead, Munson was the man who steered the ship. Presented is a signed baseball with Munson's signature, along with 21 other New York Yankees. When Munson signed this ball, he was on his way to being the American League Rookie of the Year. He hit .302 that season. Defensively, he threw out 52% of steal attempts. For his career, Munson hit .292, and he won three Gold Gloves. The 7-time All-Star helped lead the Yankees to two Worlds Series championships. "Four of the top catchers of all time were born in 1947,' said author and baseball analytics guru Bill James. "Bench, Fisk, Boone, and Munson." When Munson died in a crash of his own plane while he was practicing take-offs on August 2, 1979, the Yankees had lost their captain and a man with a tough exterior who was a kind man underneath. Munson's teammates who signed the ball are Bobby Murcer, Mel Stottlemyre (Sweet Spot), Ron Klimkowski, Steve Hamilton, Lindy McDaniel, Fritz Peterson, and 15 others. The Official American League Cronin ball is in satisfactory condition. Someone has printed "1970" on the ball in red ink. Munson signed the ball in blue ink and signed as "Thurman Munson" The remainder of the signatures are legible with some being light or very light. The signed ball comes with both a JSA Letter and PSA/DNA Letter of Authenticity certifying the signatures as authentic.
