Pittsburgh Steelers football helmet worn by Hall of Fame running back Jerome Bettis, circa 1997. The black Air (Riddell) helmet features the Steelers logo on the right side and a single gold stripe running down the center. Bettis’ jersey number, “36,” is affixed in white numerals to both the front and rear of the helmet. Both an NFL decal and warning label are affixed to the rear exterior. A warranty label affixed to the interior is dated “07-97.” The helmet is complete with all its interior padding, original chinstrap, and attached facemask.  Bettis rushed for a career-high 1,665 yards in 1997, which was just 25 yards shy of the franchise record held by Barry Foster. One of the game’s most bruising running backs, Bettis played 10 of his 13 seasons with Pittsburgh (1996-2005), winning a Super Bowl with the club during his final year. Bettis finished his career with 13,662 rushing yards (eighth best all time) and 91 rushing touchdowns (tied with Franco Harris for 11th best all time).  In addition to his Hall of Fame induction in 2015, Bettis’ other notable achievements/honors include six Pro Bowl selections, two First Team All Pro selections, NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, NFL Comeback Player of the Year, and Walter Payton Man of the Year. He is also a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ All-Time Team and Hall of Honor. The helmet displays heavy wear, including numerous scratches, abrasions, and nicks to the exterior.
