Shohei Ohtani is nicknamed "Show Time," and for good reason. Ohtani is the first great two-way player since Babe Ruth, and Ohtani's best season was the 2021 campaign. This past season, after discarding the "Ohtani Rules," a set of guidelines to limit the stress on Ohtani by restricting both his pitching and hitting appearances, the Los Angeles Angels let Ohtani and manager Joe Madden decide on Ohtani's use on a day-to-day basis. The result was amazing. Ohtani went 9-2 with a 3.18 ERA as a pitcher, with 156 strikeouts in 130.1 innings. As a hitter - almost all as a DH with a few outfield appearances - Ohtani blasted 46 homers, drove in 100 runs, had an OPS of .965, led the AL with 8 triples and stole 26 bases. Ohtani was the first two-way player in MLB history to have 10+ home runs and 20+ stolen bases as a hitter and have 100 strikeouts and 10+ appearances as a pitcher while holding at least a share of the league lead in home runs in 14 pitching starts. In his first MLB season, Ohtani was the Al Rookie of the Year. In 2021, he won the AL Silver Slugger Award as a DH and was named the AL MVP. In addition, Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred gave Ohtani the Commissioner's Historic Achievement Award and stated that Ohtani's season was "historically significant" and "unprecedented."
