In 1994 Donruss issued a special 8-card insert set within its Studio set titled Heritage. What made the set unique was that each player featured in it was pictured wearing a replica "throwback" uniform while holding vintage equipment from the corresponding era. Offered here is the Kansas City Monarchs uniform (jersey and hat) worn by Joe Carter, as well as the bat he held, while posing for the photo used to produce his 1994 Donruss Studio Heritage card #3. The replica circa 1930s Kansas City Monarchs home jersey (#25 on reverse) was produced by Ebbets Field Flannels, while the matching cap was crafted by American Needle. (The jersey can be easily photo matched to the card image.) The vintage lathe-model bat (34", 38 oz.) is an interesting example. Although it features no manufacturer's stampings, it was later returned to the Louisville Slugger factory in 1922 for use as a template for future orders. That fact is evident by the side writing on the barrel that reads "H. A. Stevenson 4-4-22/St. Louis MO." The bat is not cracked and displays heavy use. The jersey (size XL) remains in Near Mint condition. The cap (size 7 1/4) displays a tiny stain on the top of the brim and is otherwise in Near Mint condition. It should be noted that this is one of four uniforms worn by players featured in either the 1992 Leaf Heritage Series set or 1994 Donruss Studio Heritage set offered in this auction.
